Destinations:
Guarding the entrance to Mandalay Hill are two immense statues of lions. These protectors welcome visitors to the holly hill that stands 230 meters above the surrounding plains. Legends say that climbing the hill on foot brings health and a long life. If you decide to climb the hill, you will pass pagodas along the way and on the top, you can witness the great Buddha. The summit viewpoint is especially popular at sunset when young monks love to converse with visitors while practicing foreign languages.
Compared to other cities in Myanmar, Mandalay is fairly new, having been built in the 1800’s by King Mindon. This city offers a selection of many attractions to explore from restaurants and shops to temples and monasteries.
Photographed by many, Inle Lake is a beautiful highland lake. At 900 meters above sea level, the lake is 22km long and 10km across, and inhabited by many different ethnic nationals of the area. The Intha people are Lake dwellers who are unique for their leg rowing. Leg-rowed traditional boats are the main ceremonial attraction of the Inlay Lake.
Myanmar’s highlight is the temple town of Bagan, covering an area of 16 square miles and housing more than 2,000 temples. Located about 460 miles north of Yangon and about 118 miles south of the city of Mandalay, this impressive religious compound can be best be enjoyed onboard a hot air balloon.
Yangon, formerly Rangoon, was the capital of Myanmar until 2005. Today, with a population of over 5 million people, it is Myamar’s largest city and main economic hub. As a former British colony, the city is filled with the remains of a colonial architecture from the 19th century. Today, Yangon is an exotic city of many contrasts. It is a city influenced by religion. Visitors will see on a typical day. The contrast between a chaotic modern and commercial city and the appearance of monks wandering in burgundy robes and the gilded pagodas.
