Chiang Rai is the northernmost city founded in 1262 as the capital city the capital of the Mangrai Dynasty. The delightful city is worth getting to know thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and down-to-earth feel, historical and cultural sites. Chiang Rai may be less visited by travelers than Chiang Mai, but what makes it fascinating is its strong association with the Tai ethnic culture – the origins of Lanna people – which can still be seen in the temple and museum architecture around the city area.
