Located in the middle of the Nyaungshwe Valley in Shan State amidst mountain ranges, Inle Lake is 22km long and 10km across. It is 35km away from the nearest Heho airport. There are flights to there from Yangon and Mandalay.

The lake and its surroundings are inhabited by many different ethnic minorities staying on stilt-houses, in which the Intha people famed for their unique leg rowing technique: one leg is wrapped around the oar to paddle flat-bottom boat, the other leg on the end of their boat, leaving their hands free to cast their nets. The inhabitants here are devout Buddhist, that the reason why you can see many Buddhist pagodas and monasteries scattering around the area. Inle Lake is somehow different from other Myanmar tourist destination as its beauty comes not just from the nature but from its harmonious relationship with the people who have been lived on it for hundreds of years: towns developing from the islands, stilt-houses suspending above the water, and a unique style of aquaculture. The view of the water with the bird flying overhead is simple stunning, and the many kinds of floating gardens are something that visitors should take delight to see, not mention to craft workshops and interesting markets.
