Established as Vietnam's first national park in 1962, Cuc Phuong spans 22,000 hectares across three provinces. This pristine tropical rainforest ecosystem teems with diverse flora and fauna, including ancient trees, some over 1,000 years old, and the famous Cave of Prehistoric Man. Known as Vietnam's conservation capital, Cuc Phuong attracts many worldwide conservationists like Tilo Nadler.
Upon arrival, our first stop is the New Visitor Center, where you can delve deeper into the park's history and biodiversity through informative displays.
Then, you can visit the three nearby wildlife rescue centers that provide refuge for thousands of wild animals, including critically endangered species. Here, you can learn more aboutVietnamese conservation efforts to protect and prevent endangered species from illegal wildlife trades.
While the Endangered Primate Rescue Center provides a unique chance to see rare primate species, Save Vietnam's Wildlife, led by the famous conservationist Nguyen Van Thai, focuses on protecting pangolins and preventing endangered species from extinction, and the Asia Turtle Center, home to thousands of turtles.
Between 10 am and 11 am lies a unique chance to observe the keepers' daily routines. They prepare baskets filled with leaves and fruits tailored to the animals' dietary needs, carefully arranging them in the enclosures. The animals eagerly trail behind their caretakers, savoring the forest-fresh delights provided.
In the afternoon, we'll drive 20km to the park core area, where you'll begin hiking a 7km loop trail to see the 1000-year-old tree. On this trail, you'll have a chance to discover the secrets of nature. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Cave of Prehistoric Man on the way back, where human skeletons and stone tools dated to some 7,500 years old have been found.
We will return to Hanoi in the late afternoon.
Note:
The best time to visit is in the dry months from November to February. From April to June it becomes increasingly hot and humid, and from July to October the rains arrive, bringing lots of leeches. Visitors in April and May may see millions of butterflies and fireflies. Note that weekends can be busy with Vietnamese people. Rescue centers are closed at noon at 11:30 Am, reopen at 1:30 in the afternoon.
