All foreign-registered private vessels, skippers and crew must check in with the relevant Thai authorities as soon as possible after entering Thai waters. How to get around Thailand

By air
Domestic flights around the country are easy, convenient and reasonable price, cutting down on journey times and often costing less than travel by car or rail. Most routes start from Bangkok, but Chiang Mai, Ko Samui and Phuket have a few ones to other provinces.

THAI, Bangkok Air, Orient Thai and Nok Air operate many domestic flights from Bangkok to provincial capitals.

By boat
The long-tail boats are popular transport on rivers, canals in Bangkok and throughout the country.

Car & motorbike
Normally, visitors who want to drive cars and motorbikes in Thailand will need an international driving permit, but this isn’t always compulsory.

Thai people drive on the left-hand side of the road. Be aware of the right side goes to the bigger vehicles. In Bangkok, traffic is chaotic, roads are poorly signposted and motorcycles and random contra flows mean you can suddenly find yourself facing a wall of cars coming the other way.

You can hire a bicycle from guesthouses for about 50B per day, but they aren’t always high-quality. Duties are high on imported bikes, you’d better bring your own bike to Thailand rather than purchasing locally. No special permits are needed for bring a bike into the country.
