This 4 day tour is to discover Mrauk U – the lost city which still remains undiscovered to the world. Once the powerful kingdom of the Rakhine people, it offers some of the riches archaeological sites with numerous ancient temples and pagodas. You also wander around local market or ascend up the hill at sunrise to be marveled at the magical sight of morning mist shrouding the temples before they shine magnificently in sunrays. Last but not least, visit some ethic villages and meet tattooed women with well-preserved lifestyles.


Full itinerary

DAY
1
Yangon – Sittwe
Meals:

Morning, transfer to the airport for domestic flight to Sittwe, the capital and main port of Rakhine (Arakan) State. Upon arrival, you are picked by our guide then transfer to hotel for check in.

Afternoon, visit the Cultural Museum where you find the collection of displays and exhibitions about the Rakhine people's history and their culture (closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Public Holidays). After that, you continue by a local TukTuk or car along the Strand Road to discover some local shops and the energetic areas of the area. You can't miss visiting the Phayagyi Temple - a 100-year old golden faced Buddha. Afterwards drive to the city's "View Point" to enjoy an exquisite sunset over Sittwe's bay and the Gulf of Bengal before returning to your hotel for overnight.

Sittwe – Mrauk U By Boat

Have an early breakfast at hotel then check out and drive to visit the town's fish market, the Jetty of Kaladan River where you will embark the boat for an upstream trip (approx. 6hours) to the last royal capital of Rakhine. Lunch will be served on board. You'll then visit Mrauk U - one of the wealthiest Asian capitals in the world during the 5th century. This ancient city is dotted with more than 700 temples remains as Myanmar's 2nd most famous archaeological site. Arrival in Mrauk U around midday, transfer to your hotel for check in.

Afternoon, start a tour to discover Koethaung Temple, the largest architechtural monument in Mrauk U. Continue to visit the Yadana Mann Aung Pagoda, SakayaMannaung Pagoda and Launbanpyauk Pagoda that built by King Minkhaungraza in 1525. You'll visit PitakataikLibraray, the last remaining library out of 48 that were once in Mrauk U before driving back to hotel. Enjoy your compulsory dinner at hotel.

Today, you will leave your hotel at around 6:00 am in order to catch an impressive sunrise over the misty hills of Mrauk U. Afterwards, return the hotel for breakfast before exploring in Mrauk U with a visit to local market. Continue to visit the Royal Palace ruins and learn the extensive collection of art facts and relics the Archaelogical Museum. Lunch will be on your own account.

This afternoon, you'll visit the Shit Thaung Pagoda which was built in 1535 and considered to be the city's most highlight monument. Explore a collection of Arakanese Buddha images and reliefs before going to Andawthein Ordination hall, a multi-spire structure filled with inimitable stone carvings. End of day, you visit the circular Ratanabon Pagoda, Dukkhanthein Temple and Laymyetnha Pagoda, the first pagoda to be built in Mrauk U in 1430. Transfer back to hotel. The hotel's compulsory dinner is served.

4
Mrauk U – Sittwe – Yangon

After breakfast at hotel, drive to the jetty to embark on a local boat and cruise back to Sittwe while learning the local river-life along the way. Lunch will be served on board. Arrival at Sittwe jetty, a private care is waiting to take you to Sittwe Airport. Fly back to Yangon.
