Halong Bay
About 170km (or a 3.5 hour drive) east of Hanoi, you will find Halong Bay, or “Descending Dragon Bay,” a must see destination in North Vietnam. The Bay, which is twice recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features thousands of dramatic limestone karsts -limestone formations rising from the emerald water.
Legend has it that once upon a time, a family of dragons was sent to the Earth by the gods to help the Vietnamese defend the homeland against the northern invaders. The dragons battled by spitting out jewels which turned into islands and islets, linking together to create an invincible wall that protected the country. After defeating the invaders, the dragons fell in love with the peaceful landscape and decided to stay giving the area the legendary name of “Descend-ing Dragons Bay”.
Halong Bay, needless to say, is one of the most famous attractions of Vietnam. This option will give you a round transferring from Hanoi to this World Heritage Site and vice versa by seaplane, fly above rivers, lakes, rice paddies and villages.
